Revolutionary Road - Movie Review
Director: Sam Mendes

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Michael Shannon, David Harbour

Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video

Fun Fact: This film is directed by Sam Mendes who also directed the film "1917"

Frank and April are an ideal couple who live with their two children in the suburbs of Connecticut. However, when they start facing issues in their marriage, April decides to move to Paris.

This film isn't a "rom com" by any means. It is about how a couple's relationship falls apart. We see Frank (Leo) and April (Kate) and their relationship. Frank is trying to connect with April and she herself is struggling. They move into a neighbourhood called "Revolutionary Road" with both their children.

Now this film takes place in the year 1955 and Frank works in a manufacturing organisation in his cubicle. He finds his job boring and uninteresting, whereas April is a housewife. April realises this and plans on the whole family going to Paris, while she works and Frank follows his passion that he's still trying to find. First, they meet with the idea being childish and immature. But they're young and without a care in the world, they continue with their plan.

Now Michael Shannon plays John, the mentally ill son of our main characters' neighbour is brilliant, and is the kind of person who makes everyone feel uncomfortable and spits out straight facts without any shame.

Even Leo and Kate are absolutely fantastic in their performances. I can't even translate into words how immersive they were in their characters. The way they move their facial muscles in order to really make you believe what they're feeling, and even the unpredictability of the character's actions really prove why Winslet and DiCaprio are one of the best performers of the decade.

There's cheating going on from both parties, and sadly, they fail to understand and connect with each other. The weird chaos is, uncomfortable, because the day after the argument, April becomes calm and kind. April and Frank have a peaceful and nice breakfast together.

Even the cinematography and camerawork is great as the camera chaotically follows our characters intensely depending on the scenes of course and it's done masterfully.
Still, this film is a tragedy about how 2 people fail to connect on an emotional level and how this breaks them up internally, and how they have to face it's consequences.

I won't ruin the film for you and I highly recommend this film. It sure is an emotional ride for sure, and it's about taking a deeper darker look into humanity.
